Paradise Philippines: El Niño Phenomenon

When Philippines Archbishop Msgr. Gaudencio Rosales issued an Oratio

Imperata Ad Petendam Pluviam (Obligatory Prayer to Request for Rain) last week asking the God of all nature to send rain, someone must have heard it well.

Recent typhoons Chedeng and Dodong restored the water levels of the drying dams in paradise Philippines, which supply water to farmers in the provinces of Bulacan and Pampanga, and to residents in Metro Manila. Farmers depend on dams because it is the main source of waterirrigation for their farmlands.

The drought that hit the country in the second quarter of the year has caused devastation to rice and corn farms. The government has started cloud-seeding operations for farm areas hit by El Nino phenomenon.
Some towns that were hardest hit by the dry spell are placed under state of calamity.

Meanwhile, Philippines Department of Agriculture said that the amount of rainfall produced by typhoon is not enough and experts are hoping that more rain will come to areas that were severely hit by the dry spell.

State of Calamity

Despite the seemingly blessings from heaven, some towns affected by the tropical storms were declared under a state of calamity. Damage to agriculture, fisheries and infrastructure was estimated at P20.046 million. At least 154 houses were reported damaged and 7 killed.

Areas that were placed under state of calamity are Bulacan, Pampanga, Bataan and some other areas in Central Luzon, northern island of paradise Philippines.

Perhaps there is truth to the saying, be careful what you pray for because when it rains, it truly pours.
